What to prepare?

Before coming to China to study, it is important to find out as much as possible about the institution and the city in which you are planning to study.

Moving to a new country presents many new and exciting challenges.

Here are some important tips:

  1. Arrange accommodation as soon as you accept the offer. Most institutions provide on-campus accommodation and housing services support. If you do not have your accommodation organized, please contact CUCAS immediately, so you can arrange a place to stay before the semester commences.
  2. Ensure you have a valid passport and visa to study in China and confirm your travel arrangements.
  3. If you require an airport reception, ensure you submit the relevant form to your institution through your counsellor before the closing date.
  4. Familiarize yourself with the city, culture, immigration, customs and quarantine laws which can be found online.
  5. Make an enquiry with your airline provider about the accepted luggage weight and what you are permitted to carry onboard. China has strict quarantine laws, so be aware of what you can and cannot bring into the country.
  6. Check the weather forecast before departure and prepare suitable clothing.
  7. Familiarize yourself with the CUCAS pre-departure guide and the pre-departure guide sent by your institution.
